It's KAMBARANG & the final stretch of 2025!
It's October and for many Queensland Aboriginal cultures it's Kambarang or 'second spring' with it's warmer weather and wildflowers. For many of us it also means the hurried & crazy pace of the last few weeks before the end of the year.
I am definitely part of the group that is wondering where the year disappeared with so much happening in my life in the last 12 months. I’ve had a knee replacement, sold my house (of over 20+ years), moved interstate (new community & new friends), and I’m still unpacking!
The business has moved too and I’m in the process of re-establishing it in Queensland, so watch this space!
I’ve exchanged the inner west of Tempe, NSW for suburban Logan, QLD with its patches of green and connectivity to Brisbane. It's an easy train ride into town, and I’m in the process of learning about the local Farmers Markets too (😢 missing Carriageworks).
The last few years have been personally chaotic and I’m looking forward to peace, quiet and a modicum level of stability. I have a new frame of reference , a new house and Molly 🐾 and I are looking forward to new adventures and recipes 😋! In the meantime it’s time to pull out the Shrubs and stay hydrated.
It’s also time to bring back the ‘not too old’ favourites. The ones I want to redrink and share are the cocktails of a few years back starting with the Ginlit. It’s our ‘rework & rebranding’ of the classic Gimlet. My twist is to make it simpler, easier and even quicker to enjoy.
We’ve condensed the total list of ingredients to 2 by combining the lime juice and simple syrup into our very own (& special) Rainforest Lime Shrub (same, same but different).
Ingredients:
- 60ml. GIN ('favourite' Manly Spirits Barrel Aged)
- 30ml. Rainforest Lime Shrub
Directions
- Add both ingredients to ice in a cocktail shaker.
- Shake well to mix.
- Strain and pour.
